FeedHalton Opening
January 2023 – FeedHalton official opening was held on January 30, 2023 and attended by Regional and Municipal officials as well as the Board of Directors.
Maria Thornton, Board Chair, delivered an introductory speech to announce the plans and operational timeline for FeedHalton.
FeedHalton was recently established in Halton region to assist any Food Security focused agency with a centralized Distribution Centre / Warehouse to acquire and distribute food for those in need of assistance with supplying food for themselves and their households.
FeedHalton will work with a member-based structure with little to no cost to be a partner for any Halton based agency. Halton Region’s 2023-2026 Strategic Plan identifies the need to strengthen the food security system. Under the Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, the Food Security Action Table has identified the need from the majority of agencies within the sector to acquire more food, increase capacity and work together to improve efficiencies in acquisition and logistics to the sector throughout Halton.
FeedHalton will use a hub model that will increase capacity, provide logistics as well as improve our data for those that are being assisted with food across the sector. It will also allow for agencies to access the inventory and place orders as needed by their agency to provide equity across the Region to those in need. Feed Halton will work with partner agencies to collaborate and improve the services offered as well as overcome some of the barriers identified by the Food Security Action Table. FeedHalton will launch its operations in early 2024.
